BLACKWATER — Porfidio Gavino "Gavy" Molina, 61, of Blackwater died on March 28, 2012.
The wake will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the family home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Mission by the Rev. Ed Meulemans. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Molina was born on Nov. 16, 1950, in Florence and was a son of Juan and Feliciana Molina. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. Later he was a heavy-equipment mechanic for tribal government. He enjoyed baseball in his younger days, playing in a semipro league in Phoenix, on the Phoenix Reds. Later in life he coached the Blackwater Bullets in Little League.
He enjoyed music, playing both bass and drums. He was a member of Pima Express, which won a Native American music award in Albuquerque, N.M., in 2000. He was an active member of his church and American Legion Post 51. He had many friends and acquaintances and enjoyed travel, going to casinos and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty; two daughters, Renee Molina and Shani Rodriguez of Blackwater; a brother, Felipe Molina of Gila River District 4; three sisters, Linda Marrufo and Esther Arriola of Tucson and Sally Ruiz of Chandler; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Simon Molina.
