Prescilla Barbarita Maestas, 86, died peacefully on Dec. 21, 2014, at Apache Junction Health Center.
Mrs. Maestas was born on Sept. 20, 1928, in Ledoux, New Mexico, to Leonor and Isabel Romero, the eldest of six siblings. She married Phil Maestas Sr. on Feb. 11, 1950, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, and moved to Casa Grande in 1953 with her husband when he opened Karl’s Shoe Store. She assisted Phil with operation of the store until its closing and subsequently worked at Serrano’s clothing store. She eventually devoted full time to her home and family.
She loved going to church and playing bingo at St. Anthony’s and the American Legion. She was active in American Legion Auxiliary Unit 8 and served as first vice president.
Her survivors include three sons and a daughter, Fil Maestas Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, David Maestas of Casa Grande, James Maestas of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Elizabeth Wiseman of Casa Grande; a brother, Wilfred Romero of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two sisters, Delia Abeyta of Cheyenne and Pearl Torres of Espanola, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 11:30. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon.
