Ramon M. Villanueva Sr., 96, of Casa Grande passed peacefully in his home on April 22, 2021. Preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Maria Villanueva, siblings, Basilio Villanueva, Guadalupe Fuentes and Anita Mercado all of Texas. He is survived by his wife Soledad Villanueva, of Casa Grande, children, Roman Villanueva of California, Silvia Villanueva of New York, Reyes Villanueva of Tucson, Sabrina Villanueva, Susan Villanueva, Sonia Villanueva, Raymundo Villanueva, Reuel Villanueva, Rene Villanueva, Ramon Jr., Sonia Corral whom he raised as his own, all of Casa Grande; sister Elidia Trevino of Texas, and his beloved pet dog Sam Sam. Also survived by 36 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 1 great- great-grandchild.
Mr. Villanueva served his country as a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army during WWII, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Normandy. He received a combat infantry badge and the Bronze Star medal. This medal was issued by the United States Department of the Army for heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. As a Veteran he was a member of the VFW, post 1677, and the American Legion, Post 8. During his career, he worked as a Smokejumper, a branch of the Alaska Fire Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Here, he protected federal, state, and private lands in Alaska.
Ramon was well loved and admired by both family and friends. With sadness, love, and profound gratitude we remember Ramon for all the stories told, life lessons taught, and sincere love he gave to each and every person he knew.
A rosary will be recited at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 201 N. Picacho St., Casa Grande on Wednesday April 28th, at 9:30 Am, mass at 10:00 AM followed by graveside services at Mountain View Cemetery 15506 W. Skyway Ave. Casa Grande, AZ 85122.
