Raymond Tharl, 80, of West Calle Rosa, Casa Grande died peacefully at home, with his beloved dogs by his side, on October 5, 2024. He had been married to Sheila (Puckett) Tharl, who passed away on October 9, 2020. Ray was born in Milford, Massachusetts on February 2, 1944, a son of the late Raymond J. and Helen (Cusson) Tharl.
Shortly after graduating from Mount Saint Charles Academy, Woonsockett, Rhode Island in 1962, Ray enlisted in the Air Force. He was assigned duties with the Canine Corp where he excelled as an instructor and team leader and developed a lifelong love of dogs. Ray served in Vietnam and became a proud veteran and military supporter.
Relocating to Arizona in 1987, he enjoyed the warm, sunny climate and wide open desert that soon became home. Loyalty to his favorite New England sports teams never waned as Ray amassed a collection of New England sports teams’ jerseys and caps as well as naming two of his dogs Fenway and Park. With his tradesman skills of carpentry, electrical and plumbing he worked for several local businesses and in later years was self-employed. Ray was quick to lend a helping hand and offer his services to friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his sister, Sandra Bernier of Plymouth, Massachusetts and her husband, Ron Bernier. Ray was predeceased by a sister, Karen Marchand and half-brother, Charles Romikaitis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
