CASA GRANDE - Richard J. Phillips, 82, a retired Army officer, died on May 30, 2016
Mr. Phillips was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and was a son of Steven and Veronica Phillips. He served proudly in the Army, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired in 1984 as a lieutenant colonel after 25 years.
He was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors, tending his plants, and reading books. His favorite pastime was cards, and he was a devoted bridge player, loving the game and his bridge partners. He enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at Casa Verde Estates. A great storyteller, he often spoke of fond memories of his grandfather’s farm near Perryopolis, Pennsylvania, and his military service overseas. He was devoted to his family.
He is survived by a son and two daughters, Andy Phillips, Veronica Webb and Christina Phillips; four brothers and sisters, Larry, Bob, Virginia and Dorothy; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four siblings, John, Marion, Steve and Raymond.
The celebration of life will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Mountain View Chapel, by Casa Grande Mountain.
