Rita Lopez

SELLS - Rita Lopez, 88, of Sells died on June 16, 2020.

Mrs. Lopez was born on June 30, 1931, to Jose and Molly Garcia in Kohatk Village. She was a traditional basket weaver, healer, singer and member of the traditional Kualia dance group. Her favorite traditional game to play was toka.

She was a mother and homemaker for her eight children and lived in Kohatk. She was well known throughout the Tohono O'odham Nation.

Survivors include seven adult children, Anlene Sanchez, Lucille Lopez, Margie Harvey, Beatrice Lopez, Alexine Lopez, Richard Lopez and Grace Lopez; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mendez J., in 1979; a daughter, Matilda Lopez; and five siblings.
