Rita Urquides

ELOY — Rita Montijo Urquides, 85, of Eloy died peacefully at home on Jan. 18, 2012.
Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. today at St. Helen of the Cross Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 8. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 9 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Juan Carlos Aguirre. Burial will be in Eloy Memorial Park.
Mrs. Urquides, known as Grandma, was born on Aug. 13, 1926, in Rillito, one of seven children of Joaquin and Engracia Montijo. She touched the lives of many with her smile and trademark sense of humor all her life. She was a farmworker and then an employee of Arizona Training Program at Coolidge until retirement. She enjoyed playing bingo, spending time with her family, listening to religious music and watching her TV "stories," especially "The Young and the Restless."
Survivors include two sons, Manuel and David M. Urquides of Eloy; a daughter, Mary Helen Blanco of Eloy; a brother, Manuel Montijo of Eloy; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan; a son, Francisco "Tacho" Urquides; a daughter, Maria "Juana" Gonzales; two brothers; and three sisters.
