ARIZONA CITY — Robert G. Boedeker, 80, a longtime Arizona City resident, died peacefully at home on Sept. 9, 2011, surrounded by family members.
Mr. Boedeker was born on May 12, 1931, in Plankinton, S.D. He worked on the family farm, then joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. He became a businessman and started some businesses in Iowa. From 1961 to 1963 he made several trips to Arizona City to start a couple of businesses, including a duplex and office building. He also had a home built for his family in 1963. He then moved his wife and, at the time, two sons to the young community.
He owned and operated Arizona City Liquor Store with partner Jack Chandler and was a salesman for Metropolitan Insurance. He enjoyed Native American art and spending time with his granddaughter Andria.
Survivors include four sons, Alan Boedeker of Texas, Robert of Arizona City, Scott of Florida and Joe of Arizona City, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary, and two sisters.
The memorial service will be held later at his request, and the family requests no flowers.
