CASA GRANDE - Roberta Mae Dickinson Stevens, 70, passed away on February 6, 2018 in Tempe, Arizona after a short illness. A 40 year resident of Casa Grande, she leaves behind her husband of 49 years, LaVerne Bruce Stevens of Casa Grande, a Vietnam Veteran. They met on February 2, 1967 when Roberta’s sister Patty set them up on a blind date. On June 22nd they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition she leaves behind by far her proudest achievement and greatest love, her daughter Rebecca McClary, an only child.
Born on March 9, 1947 in Pierre, SD, Roberta was the daughter of Robert Charles and Elsie Ruth Dickinson, Ft. Pierre, SD; and the grand- daughter of Cecil and Clara Wood of G Ranch Part A, Pierre, SD. She graduated in 1965 from Fort Pierre High School in Ft. Pierre, SD and was a domestic engineer for 49 years. She was a world traveler having lived for three years in Germany and having traveled to Paris, Rome and Hawaii multiple times. Roberta will be remembered for her love of animals, art, poetry, the desert, sunsets, the full moon and Elvis.
Roberta was preceded in death by both her parents and grandparents.
She is survived by her husband Bruce Stevens of Casa Grande, AZ; daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Jack McClary of Santa Fe Springs, CA; sister Sandra Kitchens (Timothy, Kimberly, Jeremiah, Ezra) of Casa Grande, AZ; sister Patty Dickinson (Liberty, Tanner) of Ft. Pierre, SD; and sister Tammy Thornberg (Mike, Kint, Kristin) of Angleton, TX.
As a life long animal lover Roberta created the Lone Dove Animal Sanctuary where most recently she cared for 71 animals, many of which she rescued, including ve horses, 18 chickens, an emu, rabbit and 47 very loved cats. Roberta believed that each animal touched and awakened a different part of a person’s soul. Her memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 11:00 - 12:00 in the chapel at J. Warren Funeral Services, 525 N. Peart Rd., Casa Grande followed by interment at Casa Grande
Mountain View Cemetery, 15506 Skyway Ave. A public viewing preceding the chapel service will be held from 10:00 - 11:00.
