Roger "Rod" G. Goff

CASA GRANDE - Roger G. "Rod" Goff, 88, of Casa Grande, a longtime area farmer, died on Feb. 23, 2016, at Family Tree Assisted Living.

Mr. Goff was born on Jan. 7, 1928, in Phoenix and was a son of Ed and Grace Goff. He lived in Chandler and moved to Casa Grande in 1932. In high school he was junior class president, student body president his senior year and captain of the Cougar football team. He studied agriculture and animal husbandry at Colorado State University, with his junior year spent at the University of Arizona. He married Donna Russell in October 1950 and farmed off Russell Road west of Casa Grande from 1950 to 1990. His nuclear family lived near his life’s work from 1960 until 1974, when they moved to Casa Grande. He worked for the U.S. Farmers Home Administration after moving to town.

He was a member of Flying Farmers and Civil Air Patrol and owned a plane. He served on the boards of Electrical District 3, Maricopa-Stanfield Irrigation and Drainage District and Stanfield Flood Control District. He and his wife and other families spearheaded the development of a 4-H club in Stanfield. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande and enjoyed hiking, flying and reading. Committed to his family, he delighted in his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Ellis of Casa Grande; a son, Ed Goff of Casa Grande; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, in 2010, and a sister, Barbara Hughes, in 1987.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande.

The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande.
