Born in Ponca City, OK; the second son of four children. He attended school in Tonkawa and graduated from high school in 1969. He received an associate of arts degree from Northern Oklahoma College in 1971. He enlisted in the Army and served 18 months in S. Korea. He lived in Panca City, then moved to Tonkawa in 1980 and opened a repair shop, Quality Auto, which he ran until 1998. He and his wife moved to AZ where he continued to work as a self-employed mechanic.
