Roscoe Phillip Carter

April 5, 1942 — August 20, 2013

Roscoe Phillip Carter passed away on August 20, 2013 at home as he would have wanted. He was a very wise, articulate and kind man. He was also feisty, ornery and loved a good argument or debate. He loved his wife Dorothy dearly, vowing on their wedding day to give her the
world. He did just that. Being an engineer for Exxon allowed him to fulfill that vow. While living in Libya, North Africa and later Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia they had the chance to travel Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia. In their 40+ years together, they loved throwing dinner parties, game nights or just fun get-togethers. He was great with his hands and could help bring to light many of Dorothy’s grand ideas such as building a deck that covered their entire backyard or building a bird
aviary to satisfy another of Dottie’s whims. Phil had a strong sense of honor and commitment. In Dorothy’s last years she was in poor health and bedridden. Although she had spent time in Desert Valley Care Center, she wanted to be home. Even facing declining health himself, Phil did not refuse her. He never could. He cared for her through her last year stating that when you
love someone, that’s what you do. After Dorothy’s death his health began to fade as well. He recently stated that he was not afraid of dying and was ready to go be with Dottie Sue. They are dancing in Heaven together.
Phil is survived by his daughter, Kellie Carter Zeno; his granddaughter, Kelly Dardis; his sister, Sandra Green, numerous nieces and nephews and all of the people around the globe who had the pleasure of knowing him. There will be no services as he desired. Instead he shall be remembered in the hearts of those who loved him. J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud the Gardens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
