Rosemary Griffith Soltau, 87, a longtime Casa Grande resident and retired teacher, died peacefully on July 18, 2011, at Hospice Family Care.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with a reception following at Ironwood Village clubhouse.
Mrs. Soltau was born on June 28, 1924, in Globe to Guy and Catherine Griffith. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1946 and taught high school in Superior. She married Wilbert “Will” Soltau on May 28, 1949, and they raised four children.
She also taught in Casa Grande and spent countless hours sorting items at the St. Vincent de Paul Society thrift store and organizing the back-to-school program there. She was a lifelong bridge player and played tennis into her late 70s. She was a diehard UA basketball fan. She was devoted to her family, church and community.
Survivors include two sons, John G. Soltau of Seal Rock, Ore., and Stephen H. Soltau of Lemon Grove, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Catherine Branson of Phoenix and Susan Soltau of Casa Grande; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
