ELOY - Ruben Elizondo, 73, of Eloy died at home on Dec. 8, 2016.
Mr. Elizondo was born on Jan. 4, 1943, in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and was a son of Jorge and Virginia Elizondo. His family moved to Eloy in 1960. He enlisted in the Army in 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1965. He later was a field worker until starting a career as a butcher, working for more than 25 years for Gene Ong, former owner of IGA Food Town.
He later worked for Santa Cruz Valley Union High School for 7 1/2 years as a custodian before going to the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge, where he was a caregiver and merchandise clerk until his retirement. He also had worked at Food Town and TravelCenters of America part time.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Mary Alice; four daughters, Martha Moreno of Casa Grande, Daniella Elizondo-Valdez of Eloy, Michele Elizondo-Ibarra of Eloy and Virginia Elizondo of Idaho; two sisters, Blanca Cabrera of Arizona City, Juanita Elizondo of Eloy; a brother, Fernando Elizondo Sr. of Arizona City; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver and Isreal Elizondo Sr.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at St. Helen of the Cross Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 7. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 11:30 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Alonzo Garcia. Burial will be in Eloy Memorial Park.
