Ruben Gastelum Gamez

ARIZONA CITY - Ruben Gastelum Gamez Sr., 82, of Arizona City died on Sept. 9, 2015, at Oasis Pavilion Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Casa Grande.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Coolidge, with rosary recited at 10. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30. Burial will be in Casa Grande Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. Gamez was born on Oct. 16, 1932, in Cascabel and was a son of Conrado M. Gamez and Beatriz Gastelum. He served in the Army during the Korean War and later was a heavy equipment mechanic. He received an associate degree from Central Arizona College.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Casa Grande and a founding member of Asociacion de Los Charros de Casa Grande. He was very friendly and outgoing.

Survivors include four daughters, Beatrice A. Ochoa, Celina M. Garcia and Veronica I. Hale, all of Casa Grande, and Felicia M. Rodriguez of Arizona City; two sons, Ruben Gamez Jr. of Golden Valley and Leon J. Gamez of Stanfield; two sisters, Lydia Sanchez of Phoenix and Mary Hernandez of Casa Grande; a brother, Raul Gamez of Casa Grande; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad Gamez, and a sister, Laura Ornelas.
