Rudy Salazar, age 77, of Casa Grande, AZ passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 2, 2019. He was born July 27, 1941 to Ray Sr. and Mercy Salazar. Rudy was married to his "Sugar", Freda Salazar, on November 16, 1963, and the proud father of two daughters, Lynn and Lori.
Rudy loved going to the beach in San Diego, CA with all of his family, which became one of the greatest family traditions and has continued for more than 50 years. San Diego was his second home. Rudy also loved cookouts with his family, giving back to his community, gardening in his yard, being a handyman, being a collector of stamps, coins, pins, matchbooks, and keys, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune with his Sugar.
Rudy served on the Casa Grande City Council just over 10 years, was Mayor pro tem and Mayor for a day, was listed in Who’s Who Among Hispanic elected officials of Arizona, founded the Handicap Olympics, served on the Mayor’s handicap committee, the Board of Appeals and
the Knights of Columbus. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 10 years, where he reached the rank of Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mercy Salazar. He is survived by his wife, Freda Salazar, of 55 years; his daughters: Lynn Salazar Lujan (Pancho) and Lori Sinks (Steve) of Casa Grande, AZ; his siblings: Maria Jones of Glendale, AZ; Tony Salazar, Phil Salazar,
Andy Salazar and Gina Murray of Casa Grande, AZ; Ray Salazar Jr. of Prescott Valley, AZ; and four grandchildren including Amanda Rodriguez, Angelita Wiesner, Steven Sinks and Hunter Sinks; and two great grandchildren, Brooklynn Sinks and Antonio Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019, followed by a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and then 10 a.m. Mass services at St. Anthony's Catholic Church officiated by Father Alan Valencia.
