Rufina Mandre Chavez

BOBCAT MOUNTAIN VILLAGE - Rufina Mandre Chavez, 64, died on June 17, 2019, at Archie Hendricks Sr. Skilled Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Chavez was born on Dec. 30, 1954, in San Xavier to Louis and Mary (Peters) Mandre. She taught for 25 years, in elementary education, bilingual and traditional native language. She also worked in school district administration.

She was a story teller and traditional basket weaver and enjoyed tending her garden.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Melford B.; four sons, Eric, Aron, Joseph and Daniel; a daughter, Theresa; two sisters, Claudina Marietta and Della Mandre; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Ortega, and a brother, Ernest Mandre.

Wake Saturday night, June 22, at Bobcat Mountain Village. Memorial Mass at 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, at St. Mary Catholic Mission in Cababi Village. Burial in Cababi Cemetery.
