Sam Jones Jr., 82, of Chandler and formerly of Casa Grande, died on Feb. 19, 2014, at Hospice of the Valley Dobson Home in Chandler.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Fountains of Living Water Church in Casa Grande. The celebration of life will begin at 11, with Elder Anthony Edwards officiating.
Mr. Jones was born on Aug. 11, 1931, in Clarksville, Texas, and was a son of Ruby J. and Sam Jones Sr. He grew up there and attended school before moving to Arizona in 1954. He met Exaveola Williams and married her on Jan. 14, 1956. He was a talented and well-known cook who made barbecue for actor John Wayne annually at Francisco Grande Hotel & Golf Resort.
He loved watching baseball and football, fishing with his family, music, dancing, cooking, eating and having a good time. He also loved spending time with his family and watching old western movies and was a big 49ers fan. His favorite saying was "Who ya wit?"
Survivors include four daughters, Shavanda "Nae Nae" and Christine Jones and Annette Guilley, all of Chandler, and Theresa Jones of Mesa; two sons, Glen and Darrell Jones of Casa Grande; five sisters, Edith Young, Christine Moore, Velma Jones, Ola Mae Kellum and Betty Jones, all of Texas; five brothers, James, Billy Wayne, Rosco, Edgar and Melvin Jones, all of Texas; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; two sons, Melvin and Sam Jones III; and two brothers, Lonnie and Lonzo Jones.
