STANFIELD — Sarah Jane Garcia, 76, of Stanfield died on June 29, 2012, at Hospice Family Care in Casa Grande.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel in Casa Grande. The graveside service will be at 6 a.m. Friday in Santa Cruz Village Cemetery, with Suzanne Acuna officiating.
Ms. Garcia was born on June 8, 1936, in Santa Cruz and was a daughter of Jose A. Acosta and Refugia C.J. Garcia. She was a homemaker and a Tohono O'odham leader. She was a representative for her people who lived in Mexico. She and others met with representatives of the Mexican government to help establish boundaries for land and water rights and worked diligently to get that accomplished.
Survivors include six daughters, Mary and Marcine Garcia of Arizona City, Della Alvarez of Maricopa, Julie Garcia of San Diego, Brenda Garcia of Casa Grande and Donna Garcia of Maricopa; two sons, Raymond and Robert Garcia of Stanfield; a sister, Annie Chogyuha of Stanfield; a brother, Richard Garcia of Stanfield; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Annette Garcia and Delphine Leverett.
