Sherwin Crook Whitman

Sherwin Crook Whitman of Gila River Indian Community, 71 passed away on February 8, 2025. He was born on June 14, 1953, in Sacaton, Arizona to Lucinda Whitman. Crook was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Crook is survived by his loving wife, Latricia Whitman; his children, Katie, Cassie, Kelly, Coree, and son, Kyle; and his siblings, Delmar, Doug, Terri, Loren, and Missy. He also leaves behind a cherished legacy of grandchildren.
Crook dedicated much of his life to public service, working as an EMT, for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and in various roles, including as a heavy equipment operator for the San Carlos Irrigation Project. He served the Gila River Indian Community as a district councilman and as a project administrator for the District 3 Service Center, contributing to the community with both his skills and dedication.
In addition to his career, Crook was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a fixture in several bowling leagues, enjoyed playing golf every Sunday, and is most fondly remembered for his love of baseball. Whether on the field as a player, coach, or umpire, Crook's passion for the game and his community was unmatched.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucinda Whitman, and his grandparents, Gladys and Mark, brother Mikie.
