Stuart E. Rasmussen

On September 4th, 1924 a most wonderful, understanding and truly happy man came into this world. Stu, as everyone called him, was born in Rockford, Illinois on a family farm. He had a happy, fun loving family to greet his arrival, consisting of his parents Sophus and Hazel Mae and three sisters, Joan, Shirley and Marguerite. Thru the years, Stu attended and graduated from Rockford schools. He graduated with honors, a BS in Education degree from Northern Illinois University. His education was interrupted by what those of that "greatest generation" called "the war". Stu was 1st Pilot on a B-17G bomber. He flew many missions in the European theatre while stationed in Italy. On the rare occasion he spoke of the war he always talked of his crew with great admiration. A special nod went to Grant, his left rear gunner.

After leaving the service Stu taught school for a time in Florida. Upon returning to Illinois he became interested in the insurance business thru friends in that "line of work". After several years in the insurance field he came to Arizona with his wife, Margaret and opened Casa Grande Insurance in 1983.

Stu loved the business and the town and continued to own and operate Casa Grande Insurance until 2002 when he retired. Stu and Maggie have enjoyed several long and wonderful trips, both here in the US and in Europe.
He loved the Kiwanis Club and its members. He enjoyed the small group of friends with great singing voices with whom he sang and performed at local nursing homes. He loved sports and enjoyed officiating at games. And he did so enjoy his golf games with good friends.

Stu was a member of St. Anthony's Church and a very caring husband, father and grandfather. It was said, "Stu never met a stranger - he was truly a people person."

Left to remember and miss him always are Maggie and the kids, Steven, Jim, George and Wanda, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a gentle man and a true gentleman.

Stuart is preceeded in death by his parents, S.E. and Hazel Rasmussen and a sister Marguerite Rasmussen.

Visitation will be Monday, November 3, 2008 from 6-8 pm at Cole & Maud the Gardens Chapel with a rosary at 7. Burial will be at Casa Grande Mt. View Cemetery.
