Sylvester Thornton, a dedicated man who touched the lives of many, passed away on June 29, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona. Born on December 13, 1956, in his beloved hometown of Eloy, Arizona, Sylvester led a fulfilling life filled with hard work and love for his family.
Throughout his career, Sylvester held various jobs, but it was his 20-year commitment to serving the City of Eloy that truly defined his professional life. He retired from this role and left a lasting impact on all those he encountered.
In his free time, Sylvester found joy in simple pleasures like working on cars, savoring his morning coffee, and cheering for the Arizona Cardinals. He especially cherished moments spent fishing with loved ones and sharing laughs together.
Sylvester leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will be forever treasured by his surviving family members. His beloved wife, Carmelita Thornton of Arizona City, AZ, children; Detric Thornton and Krishana Thornton of Mesa, AZ, Shayla Rutledge and Brandi Thornton of Phoenix, AZ, Krystle Glenn of Chandler, AZ, Sylvester Thornton Jr. and Leticia Thornton of Arizona City, AZ, and Maya Beasley of Tucson, AZ will always carry his spirit with them.
He is also survived by a large and loving extended family including his mother Vernell Stephens and step-father Wardell Stephens both from Eloy, Willie Masters of Eloy, AZ, Theolph Thornton of La Palma, AZ, Openell Thornton of Phoenix, AZ, Claude Thornton and Marilyn Garcia of Arizona City, AZ, Curtis Thornton of Eloy, AZ, Laverne Jackson of Casa Grande, AZ, Sandra Reeves of Casa Grande, AZ and Sharon Thornton of Phoenix, AZ. also deeply mourn the loss.
Sylvester has rejoined his departed family members: grandparents Joseph and Olivia Thornton along with Mary Lue and Arthur Beach; father Willie Thornton; two sisters Baby girl Dixon and Nataline Marcy Thornton, as well as great-grandson Bryson Thornton are now reunited in peace.
A Visitation will take place at After The One Church in Arizona City on July 13th starting at 9:00 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 10:00 AM. The Graveside Service will be held at Eloy Memorial Park at 11:30 AM on the same day to honor Sylvester's memory.
Sylvester's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace knowing he was cherished by many.
