Sylvia Whitney, 81, of Coolidge, died June 30, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born November 17, 1941, in Douglas to Gilbert and Guadalupe Miranda.
Sylvia was known to many people as the “Bottle Stop” lady, she was a familiar face to the community for many years. Sylvia was kind, caring, thoughtful and giving. Her door was always open, she never judged anyone by what they were going through in life. She wouldn’t hesitate to help those who needed it, and never asked why or for anything in return. She maintained a clean house and no matter what, always kept a beautiful appearance.
Sylvia was her family’s foundation and always kept everyone together. She was a woman of tradition and made sure her kids knew that she was there for them, and that family meant everything. She loved to have family gatherings and enjoyed the holidays. Christmas was her favorite and she took great pride in hosting their Christmas parties and having the family together to help make tamales.
She would do anything for her children, all it took was one call or visit. Even if it was just to have her cook one of their favorite meals. She loved listening to music, dancing, novellas, sports and the TLC Channel. She was a Godmother to many kids and loved her children and grandchildren very much.
She is survived by her sons and daughters, Dino Whitney, Melinda Zucker, Tabby Childers, Ron Miranda and Terry Whitney, a sister, Frances Davies, 24 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by, her son Joey, 4 siblings and her parents.
