Tony L. Gallegos, age 81, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on June 25, 2021 at Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, AZ. He was born in his family home on his father’s birthday in La Jara, CO on July 9, 1939, to Antonio and Anna Maria (Valdez) Gallegos.
Tony left his hometown in his early high school years to join his older brother, Vincente, and his wife, Estella, for more opportunity in northern California. He was a person with endless spirit and a desire to succeed in anything he dreamt of. He spent many years as a laborer on construction sites starting with grade setting and as a heavy equipment operator. Throughout his lifetime his career advanced in the industry to ultimately allow him to create JAG Construction Co. He was exceptional in this industry, but more importantly the camaraderie and humor he brought to the work site created an environment everyone loved being part of. Tony was gifted with people; from old to young his genuine loving heart was something special in this world.
He spent most of his life in the outdoors whether working or in recreation. A lover of nature, he found peace and adventure in hunting and fishing. He would say his greatest accomplishment in life was his family and was always so proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. He was a people person and when not working, his greatest joy was being with family and friends eating a good meal, talking shop or watching sports. He made everyone feel like family. In an instant he could make a complete stranger feel like they had known each other forever. Love and generosity were truly his gifts. It is with a heavy heart that we all say goodbye to this special man but find comfort in believing we will see him again
.
