ARIZONA CITY - Vera Cleone Armstrong died on Aug. 31, 2016. She would have been 90 on Sept. 14.
Mrs. Armstrong was born in Grant, Nebraska, in 1926 to Charles and Emma Lamb, and she lived there until she married Thurman Armstrong in 1948 in Herrin, Illinois. They lived in Michigan for several years, then moved to Florida for about a year before settling in Nebraska. They raised most of their family in Ogallala, where they lived until 1981. Then he retired and they moved to Arizona City.
She was a very kind, sweet and happy person and was loved and adored by many. For years she was active in the Women’s Golf Association. She loved to play cards and games with family and friends and was active in pinochle and bridge clubs. She worked in Nebraska at JCPenney part time for many years, but her biggest commitment was to her Lord. She was a devout Catholic most of her life.
Her husband died in 2010. She is survived by her seven daughters and sons, Marsha Armstrong of Prescott, Jack Armstrong of North Platte, Nebraska, Vicki Armstrong Clevenger of Gibbon, Nebraska, Dick Armstrong of Maricopa, Cheri Armstrong Waggoner of Alma, Nebraska, Kristi Armstrong Bickle of Chandler and Nikki Armstrong Stambaugh of Marana; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Lutheran Church in Arizona City. Her ashes will be joined with her husband’s in the rose garden at the church. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the Arizona City Country Club after the service.
