Vernon Mickey Johns

BLACKWATER - Vernon Mickey Johns, 75, died May 11, 2007 in Casa Grande.

Visitation will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the family home. The graveside service will be at 6 a.m. Wednesday in Blackwater Cemetery, with the Rev. John Jacobs officiating.

Mr. Johns was born Aug. 20, 1931 in Sacaton to Ben and Alice Johns. He grew up in Blackwater and joined the Army, serving in the Korean War. He later worked in the farming and construction trades before retirement. He was known for his love of dogs and birds and ability to grow plants, especially flowers, trees and vegetables.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Oreen; a daughter, Ellen Johns of Blackwater; five stepdaughters, Lynelle Blackwater of Mesa, Rhea and Laura Eddie of Blackwater, Joyce Eddie of Phoenix and Caron Eddie of Mesa; a stepson, Alan Blackwater of Blackwater; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David.
