Violet Mae Hoefert, 92, of Phoenix died on Nov. 20, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix.
Ms. Hoefert was born on July 21, 1918, at Mapleton, Iowa, and was a daughter of Leo Dolan and Kizzie Holiday. She attended a small school near there, then graduated with honors from Smithland High School in 1936. She moved to Arizona in 1946 and attended Lamson Business College in Tucson. She held an Arizona real estate license and bred AKC daschunds. She was a computer operator for Phoenix City Court’s traffic division before retirement.
She was a longtime resident of Silvercrest senior housing, where she had many friends. She enjoyed painting (oil, watercolor and china), needlepoint, beadwork, making porcelain dolls and collecting daschund postcards, pins and figurines. Her collection spanned more than 70 years from all over the world. She was feisty, independent and friendly and lived life on her own terms.
Survivors include a daughter, Kary L. O’Connor of Casa Grande; two sisters, Cecilia M. Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Rose Beebe of Bethune, S.C.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Karrol D. Ripple; a brother, Norman Dolan; three sisters, Ramona Dolan, Pauline Puls and Vivian Kehrer; and a grandson, Troy Mortell.
A private service is planned in Casa Grande.
