Virgil Lewis

AK-CHIN - Virgil Lewis, 57, died peacefully on Aug. 28, 2016.

Mr. Lewis was born on Nov. 8, 1958, in Sacaton to Ambrose and Bernice Lewis. He was a community health representative for a number of years and also an elderly caretaker. He loved listening to his chicken scratch (waila) music, watching WWE wrestling and being with friends and family.

Survivors include a daughter, Verdina Aguilla of Ak-Chin; four sisters and a brother, Arlene Manuel, Marilyn Thompson, Jacquelyn Lewis, Marvin Lewis and Monica Murietta, all of Ak-Chin; a stepson; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maxine and Annette Lewis; and a brother, Kevin Lewis.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. today at St. Francis Catholic Mission by Monsignor Ed Meulemans. Visitation will follow at the Murietta home. Burial will be at 6 a.m. Saturday in Ak-Chin Cemetery.
