SACATON - Virgil Ray Armstrong, 65, died Dec. 20, 2008 at Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix.
The wake will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Mission in Santan. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 10 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Ed Meulemans. Burial will be in St. Anne Cemetery.
Mr. Armstrong was born in Sacaton and was a son of Alice and Raymond Armstrong. He was a licensed practical nurse and was active in Catholic Native American ministry. He was a community health representative for 20 years in District 3 of the Gila River Indian Community. He was a devoted Suns and Diamondbacks fan.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a stepson, Preston Goulette of Sacaton; four stepdaughters, Stephanie Antone of Blackwater, Wanda Goulette, Carol L. Armstrong and Anne Antone, all of Sacaton; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
