BLACKWATER - Wayne Ivan Harvey, 72, of Blackwater died peacefully on March 8, 2017, at Chandler Regional Medical Center, with his family by his side.
Mr. Harvey was born on Sept. 6, 1944, in Blackwater to Howard Harvey and Iva-Lee Scoffer-Harvey. A man of God, he was well known and loved and showed compassion for others in many capacities. He graduated from Coolidge High School and studied music at Mesa Community College. He received an associate degree from Cook School for Christian Leadership in Tempe and attended seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.
He was a lay pastor for many Presbyterian churches throughout the Gila River Indian Community as well as at Fort Defiance, Sells and churches in South Dakota. He also served as a church pianist and choir director.
Survivors include two sons, Wilman of Tucson and Larnell Harvey of Lone Butte; a daughter, Juliette Harvey; two sisters, Alma V. Nelson of Casa Grande and Leora N. Newman of Blackwater; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and three brothers.
Wake from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, March 17, at the Blackwater Multipurpose Building. Funeral at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Blackwater Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Aaron Johns and Pastor Randy Ruiz officiating. Burial in Squawbush Cemetery.
