SACATON - Wilfred Wellington, 86, of Sacaton died on Dec. 6, 2017.
Mr. Wellington was born on April 14, 1931, in Sacaton. After graduating from high school, he attended Cook School for Christian Leadership in the Valley, where he met Harriet C. Hollow, whom he married in 1955. He pursued his undergraduate education while in California, taking classes at city or community colleges while working to support his family. They moved back to Arizona in 1972, and he completed a bachelor's degree at Arizona State University.
He was active in his church throughout his adult life and served as a Presbyterian elder at Salt River and later in Sacaton. He was a commissioned lay pastor and served faithfully until his retirement. He enjoyed painting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Leon Wellington; and sisters Elvira Wellington, Winona Pratt and Myra Morago. Survivors include three daughters, Judith Wellington, Jewel Bishop and Katherine Livingston; a son, Norman Wellington; a sister, Louella Hendricks; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at First Presbyterian Church in Sacaton. Funeral at 9, with the Rev. Daniel Albertson officiating. Graveside service at 10:30 a.m. in East Sacaton Cemetery.
