ARIZONA CITY - William Alvin "Bill" Young Jr., 87, of Arizona City died on Feb. 8, 2016, at Olive Branch Assisted Living Home in Casa Grande.
The celebration of life will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Carefree Vineyard Church in Phoenix, with Pastor James Hill officiating. Burial will be in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.
Mr. Young was born on April 27, 1928, in St. Louis and was a son of Daisy and William Young Sr. He served 21 years in the Army before retirement and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. He later was an insurance loss control engineer.
He volunteered with the Phoenix Police Department for 11 years, the Arizona Department of Public Safety for nine years and at Army recruiting stations for 23 years. He was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed being with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Young of Arizona City and William Young III of Anthem; two daughters, Deborah Browder of Chandler and Linda Rasnake of Deale, Maryland; a brother, Clarence Young of California; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Shirley; his second wife of 15 years, Delores; a son, Steven Young; three brothers; and a sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Second Chance, Operation Homefront DC Chapter or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
