William Maugans

MESA — William Roy Maugans, 89, of Mesa died on Sept. 25, 2010, at Banner Gateway Medical Center.
The celebration of life will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of Debbie Frazey in Mesa.
Mr. Maugans was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Springfield, Ill., and was a son of Howard and Elizabeth Maugans. He served in the Army and Air Force from 1939 until 1963 and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He received a degree in education from the University of Arizona in 1964 and was a teacher in Nogales and Tucson for several years. He married Hazel P. Newell on June 16, 1942, and she died in 1992. They lived in Las Vegas from 1974 until her death, when he returned to Casa Grande. He moved to Mesa in 2009.
Survivors include a son, William Maugans Jr. of Mesa; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, James Maugans.
