Yvonne Serrano was born June, 1922 in Supply, Arkansas and died on July 19, 2013. She was 91 years old. Yvonne had many happy memories growing up Pocahontas, AR. Her family owned a cotton gin and later cotton picking machines. She often spoke of how she loved listening to the sounds of the gin operating at night and watching her brother Gabe navigate his airplane by following the railroad tracks. Yvonne was a drum majorette and was voted prettiest girl in Maynard High School.
She always remarked on what a wonderful childhood she had. She loved spending time with her brother Gabe and his wife Laneve. Gabe owned Kings of the Road Automobile Museum in Cucamonga, CA. He leased his classic autos to Hollywood movie studios. Yvonne had
many cherished pictures of Gabe with some of the biggest movie stars of the time, such as Elvis, Ronald Reagan and Gary Cooper. On one of their cotton harvesting trips out west Yvonne decided to spend some time in the small town of Casa Grande, AZ. She began working at Ryan Evans Drugstore and later met and married a handsome man named George Serrano. George and Yvonne loved to take trips to Pinetop, AZ with friends and family. Often they would meet with good friends John and Barbara “Boots” O’Donnell at the Roundhouse Restaurant. Many good times were also enjoyed with Bob and Bertha Echeverria and Gil and Gloria Valdez. After her husband George passed away in 1990, Yvonne continued to enjoy trips to Pinetop with her family. Known as “The Wreath Lady,” she made many beautiful Christmas wreaths for family, friends and donated many for the annual Christmas House. Yvonne was also a proud member of The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Yvonne is survived by her daughters Linda Waggoner and Sara Bell; sons Malcolm Randle, Chris, Mark and Greg Serrano; brother-in-law Tony Serrano; sisters-in-law Bertha Echeverria and Delia Martin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her beloved companion pug Rosie. Yvonne is predeceased by her husband, her son Phillip Serrano, sister Eileen Gilbert, brothers Gabe and Bud Ingram.
