Zula Belle Walton, 92, of Casa Grande passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at her home. Zula graduated from Mesa High School in 1937 and attended Arizona Teachers College (ASU). Her parents were among the original Mesa pioneers. She was a founding member of the Casa Grande Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served as the first Primary President in that Branch. Zula and her husband Vern moved to Casa Grande in 1947
from Colorado where they operated a cattle ranch for seven years. After moving to Casa Grande, Zula, her husband and son, Chuck, owned and operated a General Motors auto dealership/farm machinery business in Casa Grande for over 50 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Gary) Clawson of Virginia and Diane (John) Ball of Idaho; four sons, Chuck (Pamela Self) Walton and Grant (Laura Oldham) Walton of Casa Grande, Gary (Fran) Walton of Mesa and Scott (Carrie Mason) Walton of Flagstaff; daughter-in-law Glenna Gould Walton; sister Delcie Hatch of Mesa; 37 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Vern Walton, son Vern "Bud" Z. Walton, Jr.; and her parents Charles and Clara Robson III.
There will be a graveside service Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at City of Mesa Cemetery in Mesa. President Grant D. Walton will be officiating, with burial to follow.
